BBQ

My company caters an 'employee appreciation' lunch once a month, and this month's was today. It was a bbq. Chicken, Ribs, Burgers, pasta salads (2 kind) Caesar Salad, baked beans, cookies and brownies. Soda, and water were the beverages offered.

Now the healthy you that's waiting to get out would be reaching for the grilled chicken (yes it was boneless and skinless) and you would cut it up and toss it with the salad sans dressing. Am I right?

GOOD!

Now I'm a vegetarian, and happily so even though at these things I get the odd look, and the occasional snicker. It's true the salads (except the caesar) and the beans were chock full of processed meats and cheeses. I chose to make myself a tomato and lettuce sandwich with the hamburger bun. I even put a few pickle slices on there, although the sodium is a bit much.

I had more than one coworker look at me and kind of grin in triumph. "Aha I thought you were a vegetarian?" I had to explain what I was eating, and silently cheered at their disappointed looks.

Kills me that people can be so petty.

Oh and the cookies and brownies? Not worth it. A moment of pleasure I can use somewhere else.

So I came home and made my own baked beans without the meat and I ran a mile. Want the recipe?
